THERAPY WITH ADULTS
Therapy can be a positive tool to help with those challenging times. You will be amazed
at how different you will start feeling when you begin to uncover and change old
patterns that have interfered and blocked you from fully enjoying your life. Whether it's
making changes within yourself to feel more peaceful and confident, or changes within
your relationships with others, it CAN happen. Take that first step and move yourself into
empowerment...you deserve it.
Each therapy session is a collaborative experience. As client, you set the pace.
Based on your personal needs, personality, and level of discomfort/stress, your
sessions will be structured to assist healing and growth. As a Body-Centered Gestalt
therapist, I support and value your body's experiences. In addition to 'talk therapy',
I use different modalities such as sand trays, clay, art, music, imagery and role play to
assist in accessing the parts of you that are subconscious or difficult to put into words.
Individual therapy works through the interaction of you and the mental health
professional. It is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. In order for therapy
to work, it is necessary for you to make yourself known to your therapist. This is a
gradual process, and develops over time, as you learn to express your emotions,
attitudes, and experiences. The role of your therapist is to assist you in learning to
express yourself and examine areas of your life that may be causing discomfort or
stress. Therapy can be painful at times, because it opens your awareness to the ways
we hurt ourselves and allow others to hurt us. With therapy, you will learn to stop
those self-destructive behaviors which will allow you to live your life with less denial
and artificiality. Over time, you begin to live more authentically, able to express
yourself more freely and openly and with less anger/resentment or retreating from
uncomfortable situations or people.
When we choose to go to therapy as an adult, we give ourselves a wonderful gift. We
are saying to ourselves that we are worth it, and deserve the best that life has to offer.
